Back Pain in Dogs: Study Reveals Potential of CBD Treatments

A new study published in the scientific journal Frontiers in Veterinary Science reveals that the intake of Cannabidiol (CBD) has highlighted the wide distribution of cannabinoid receptors in the dorsal ganglia of dogs, receptors known in the literature to relieve pain.

This once again suggests the strong therapeutic potential of CBD in the treatment of back pain in dogs.

Indeed, a growing body of research demonstrates that cannabinoid receptors are potential therapeutic targets for the treatment of chronic pain in dogs.

But the research doesn’t stop there. Osteoarthritis , epilepsy , inflammation , anxiety , etc. There are many pathologies, health problems and behavioral disorders that these cannabinoid receptors could relieve.

This study thus reinforces the idea that CBD is particularly effective in maintaining and preserving the well-being of canines. Decryption.

IDENTIFICATION OF CANNABINOID RECEPTORS

There is a growing interest in identifying molecules that activate cannabinoid receptors in order to best treat animal pain. In order to understand the mode of action of a molecule, it is essential to know the distribution of its specific receptor(s).

The identification of canonical and putative cannabinoid receptors in the peripheral and central nervous system of dogs is still in its early stages.

To fill this anatomical gap, a team of researchers from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Bologna in Italy designed this ex vivo study to identify the cellular distribution of cannabinoid receptors type 1 and 2 (CB1 and CB2) and putative cannabinoid receptors in the dorsal root ganglia of dogs.

ACTIVATION OF CANNABINOID RECEPTORS CB1 & CB2

Collected from recently deceased dogs, spinal ganglion tissues were exposed to CBD ligands and immunofluorescence tests were performed to see if they reacted positively.

These analyses clearly highlighted the immunoreactivity of CB1 and CB2 receptors in Schwann cells and cells surrounding blood capillaries. Overall, receptor immunoreactivity was strongest in the central part of the lymph nodes.

MORE THAN ENCOURAGING RESULTS

These results support the hypothesis that endogenous ligands (such as endocannabinoids ) and related compounds may play an important role in modulating responses associated with spinal ganglion hyperexcitability, such as chronic pain.

Concretely, this new study reveals the strong presence of CBD receptors (CB1 & CB2) allowing it to have an action against pain in the dorsal spinal ganglia in dogs.

THE EMERGENCE OF CBD PRODUCTS SPECIALLY FORMULATED FOR DOGS

The prospect of back pain relief from CBD rounds out the wide range of benefits of cannabidiol for dogs.

Among the research around the virtues of CBD, it has in fact been revealed that CBD participates in:

  • Relieve stress
  • Maintaining homeostasis
  • Reduce the frequency of epileptic seizures
  • Ease the pain
  • Soothe inflammation

In addition to these various benefits, Botaneo’s BOTACALM™ spray could activate these multiple receptors located in the back and, consequently, be beneficial in managing back pain in dogs.

A multi-action treatment which draws its strength from a formula rich in CBD but also:

  • A natural hemp
  • A THC-free formula
  • A flavor suitable for dogs
  • A product recommended by veterinarians
  • A laboratory tested product
